I’m Lucy, owner and founder of VitaSoul, mom to a -year-old son, and a born and bred Cape Town girl with a passion for wellness, health and natural living.
Many of you may already be part of the VitaSoul community, and know all about my family’s story. You may even already know that it was our journey to heal and help our son that led me to start VitaSoul so that I could help other families.
But if you’ve just come across us for the first time, and are curious about the path that brought us here, then let’s start at the beginning. The story has a happy ending, I promise.
The (kind of) beginning
Everything begins and ends with my son, and this story is no different.
So there I was, pregnant and things were not going well. I endured 16 weeks of all-day morning sickness, and severe blood pressure issues that required medication throughout my pregnancy. My baby had a rough time of it as well – in fact, he’d received 5 sets of antibiotics by his first birthday.
At 18 months, his health issues became overwhelming, and our homeopath tested my son’s gut, discovering that a severe candida overgrowth was impacting his immune system.
He sent us to a neurological paediatrician, who diagnosed our baby boy as being on the autism spectrum, and told us that he would be non-verbal and require special care.
This devastating news hit us hard, as it has for so many parents around the world. But as moms and dads know, there is very little we wouldn’t do for our babies, and once the initial shock cleared, we committed ourselves to doing whatever was necessary to help our son lead his best life.
The journey
And so we began.
It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t cheap. Sometimes it was downright heartbreaking.
We tried every possible treatment and therapy, finally finding something that worked – internal biomedical intervention.
My son had his gut tested and his spine gently realigned. He was put on a special diet and began taking supplements. It was a long, arduous road, but at three-and-a-half years old, he began speaking. And then our little boy began making all the steps forward.
The happy ending
Now diagnosed as no longer presenting with symptoms on the spectrum, my son no longer has gut issues or food intolerances. He has only seen his homeopath once in five years, and he leads a fully functional life in mainstream, surrounded by plenty of friends who love him.
Throughout this journey, I learned about the importance of eating clean and ingesting healthy clean supplements. After much research (so much research!), I found the best cleanest supplements, and saw firsthand the difference they made in my son.
I shared my story with like-minded moms, and we became a community. As a favour, I’d recommend and source supplements to help them on their health journeys.
And VitaSoul was born.
Today the VitaSoul community is significant, but I still take as much pleasure in helping my clients source the right information, supplements and support as I did in the beginning.
